Abstract
Objective: To describe the effects of mobile phone use on patient safety in the surgical area.Method: A systematic bibliographic review of the Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases wasperformed, with search strategy in English and Spanish using DeCS key terms and colloquial use. Result: Over203 articles studied, 18 studies were valid for analysis, detecting a use of the mobile phone during clinicalpractice with multiple benefits for healthcare professionals and the patient, highlighting improvements ininformation, administration, organization, communication and patient safety, as well as distractions,unfavourable perception on the part of the patients and / or family members, the spread of pathogens andinterference with electronic instruments as adverse effects associated with the use of mobile phone byhealth professionals with significant nurse presence. Conclusions: It is verified that the surgical team use themobile phone during its clinical practice, as it will lead to clearly evident significant improvements incommunication, resource management and information, as well as in patient safety. Possible adverse effectsshould be analyzed from a constructive critical perspective and with greater investigative depth.
