Abstract

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease that affects the spine andiliosacral joints. The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of aerobic exercises in patientsdiagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. A meta-analysis of 5 scientific articles was done to study the effect ofdoing aerobic exercise in patients with this disease using the statistical software Review Manager 5.3 andcomparing the BASDAI, BASFI and BASMI index (specific scales of evaluation of in AS). The total number ofparticipants was 257. The result was that aerobic exercises produce a significant improvement of the BASDAIindex, not being significant in the BASFI and BASMI index. Therefore, is recommended to do aerobic exercisesin patients diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis because it improves the BASDAI index.
