Abstract
Abstract:
Objective: To establish a nursing care plan applied to a patient with a knee dislocation, from the initial assessment to the application of a hip-to-foot splint, using the NANDA-NIC-NOC taxonomy as the main framework.
Method: Case study of an adult patient treated in a hospital emergency department. A detailed assessment, diagnosis, planning, and corresponding evaluation were carried out.
Results: Immobilization with a hip-to-foot splint allowed the joint to remain immobilized and stable, reduced pain by maintaining proper alignment between the femur and tibia, prevented recurrences, facilitated transfer and additional diagnostic tests such as X-rays, and helped prevent secondary ligamentous and vascular injuries.
Conclusions: The correct use and structuring of nursing care under the NANDA-NIC-NOC model facilitated clinical decision-making, improved patient safety, and contributed to the quality of care during the patient’s stay in the emergency department.
